Where are you going?
Artist
What will I study?
Over 2 years you will complete 13 units and
be introduced to a broad range of materials, techniques and processes within a variety
of specialist art areas, this includes drawing, printmaking, working with non-resistant materials, digital and traditional photography, textiles, surface pattern, computers in art, time based media and contextual studies. You will have access to fantastic facilities such as Mac suites, photography studios and darkroom, a 3D workshop, a print room, textiles workrooms and fine art studios. After a broad start to the course, you will then choose a main specialist pathway to enable you to develop more in-depth practical skills and knowledge.
How will I be assessed?
Through a portfolio of evidence which is internally assessed and externally moderated. You will be set theme based projects designed to develop visual language, research skills,
2D and 3D problem solving and critical and contextual awareness in art & design. Unit
13 in Year 2 is assessed as Pass, Merit or Distinction, and this Unit 13 grade forms the whole qualification grade.
What enrichment can I look forward to?
Gallery visits, external work placements, practical workshops, and trips to places of interest for gaining primary research. You will exhibit your Unit 13 project at the end of Year 2 in an art exhibition for public viewing.
What progression is there?
You can progress on to university to study a range of courses, including: illustration, textiles and fashion, theatre design, 3D and interior design, fine art, photography, graphic design, animation and games design. Some students also progress on to non-art related degrees, apprenticeships and employment.
Art students have many transferable skills, including communication, creative thinking, organisation, time management and the ability to present well. Our students transform ideas into outcomes through in-depth research and develop attention to detail, fine motor skills and sensitivity. We encourage hard work, self-discipline and an ability to share ideas and work with others.
