What will I learn?
Our Level 3 course allows you to build knowledge and skills to become our professionals of the future, equipping you
for both university and employment. You will learn how to apply Maths and Physics in an engineering environment. One day a week in the first year of study and two days a week in Year 2, you will have the opportunity to study in the new multi-million-pound professional Engineering and Science Centre at our Chorley Campus where you will develop your skills
and knowledge to a higher level ready for your future progression into employment or
higher study.
In addition to this, you will also learn about materials, electronics, and design engineering products. The course is weighted towards the underpinning theory, supported by a number of practical activities.
Units include topics such as:
• Mathematics & Further Mathematics
• further mechanical principles
• electronic principles
• engineering materials
• manufacturing processes
• computer aided design
• microprocessors
How will I be assessed?
There will be a considerable amount of written and calculated work or practical investigation. Some assessments will take the form of a report or presentation. A small amount of work will be the fabrication of a product.
What enrichment can I look forward to?
Students have previously enjoyed guest speakers from the armed forces and local engineering companies, such as Rolls Royce. There is an annual residential ski trip to Italy, plus other events such as track days at motor racing shows, team building, end of term trips to Alton Towers and paintballing.
What progression is there?
Students from this course have progressed into careers with a variety of companies including Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, Leyland Trucks, and the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
Equally, many of our students choose to study to a higher level on our own Engineering university courses, or Engineering courses at other universities such as:
• Newcastle
• Manchester
• Leeds
• Loughborough
