The Mayor's Parade - returns for 2018 with a volunteering theme. Every year thousands get together to celebrate this annual civic tradition by either taking part in the parade or just spectating - but having fun regardless.
As part of the celebrations, you'll be able to experience the future of Barnsley today, by taking a virtual reality tour of the completed town centre. You'll be able to visit the new market, walk over the new Jumble Lane
bridge, explore the new public square and see where the new cinema and library will stand in 2020.
With entertainment and family activities lined- up it's going to be a fun day out for all the family.
Wimb ledon Weekend
Saturday 14 July - Sunday 15 July I Free
Watch the men's and women's finals of Wimbledon 2018 on a gigantic screen outside the town hall and get gripped by tennis fever .
Food and drink will be on offer from Barnsley's best bars and restaurants, and during the
gaps before the tennis, popular family movies will be screened providing you with a great outdoor cinema experience .
Dancing Town
Friday 10 August - Sunday 19 August Free
Get on your dancing shoes Barnsley, because a dance festival like no other will hit the town centre's streets in August - and you're all invited to be part of the extravaganza.
Dancing Town will see a pop up dance floor arrive in Mandela Gardens (next to The Civic on Hanson Street) and local dance troops perform for the crowds . You'll see Irish, breakdance, motown, salsa, country and western and even characters dancing
to movie soundtracks as well as lots of other performers. You'll then be invited to get up and join them and have a dance yourself.
Special attractions include a movie day
and night, with the soundtracks to Disney classics such as Frozen being performed to
by characters from the films, while the night time will see icons from Grease, Dirty Dancing and Saturday Night Fever hit the town to help you dance the night away. And yes - you're allowed to dress up!
Other themes to watch out for include motown, country and western and 80s classics.
Hungry? Don't worry - some of Barnsley's best independent bars and restaurants will provide food and drink around the area, with family entertainment also on offer.
