What can you do during your Tenure of Service as a Titleholder to impact your community?
I plan to raise as much money for the American Cancer Society as I can in the next year by holding fundraisers such as the Miss Relay for Life Pageant, the Witches Ride, and the Elf Ride. I will also speak to groups on the impact cancer has on families and encourage healthy lifestyles, early identification screening tools and yearly check ups.
What has been your involvement with your platform?
I have helped organize the Crockett Witches’ Ride and Elf Ride, which has raised over $5,000 per year, and am a volunteer and member of the Alamo First Christian Church Relay For Life team as well. I volunteer with the pancake breakfast, ice cream social and the Crockett County Relay for Life Luminaria Ceremony and Walk of Hope.
What inspired you to first become involved in your platform?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been involved with the American Cancer Society. My mother is the leader of the ACT program (Ambassador Constituent Team) for the Cancer Action Network. What inspired me to get involved with this organization was that I lost my grandfather to throat cancer when I was 7 years old, both great-grandmothers have survived breast cancer, my paternal grandfathers- one is currently battling prostate cancer and the other is a skin cancer survivor, and my grandmother recently was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which she has now been cleared of.
If you are selected as the winner, how would you mobilize and market your platform nationally?
I would team up with the American Cancer Society to help organize a Witches Ride in every county in America to make it a national fundraising event.
How would you utilize social media in order to positively further your position as a titleholder if you are selected as the winner?
I would use multiple social media platforms to share my story of how I got involved with the American Cancer Society, and inspire others who have been affected by cancer as well to get out and help put a stop to these horrible diseases. I would also keep everyone up to date on fundraisers and educational events associated with the American Cancer Society. By utilizing social media, I would encourage more girls to become a part of the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Organization, and build support for the program.
