 Mosquitos
• There are approximately 3,500 species of Mosquitos.
• Like all flies, mosquitoes go through four stages in their life cycles: egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
• Each of the stages typically lasts 5 to 14 days, depending on the species and the ambient temperature.
• Typically, both male and female mosquitoes feed on nectar, aphid honeydew, and plant juices, however, the female needs to obtain nutrients from a blood meal before it can produce eggs, whereas in many other species, obtaining nutrients from a blood meal only makes it so that the mosquito can lay more eggs.
• Mosquitos are prolific vectors for diseases such as yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya, West Nile virus, Zika, and various forms of Encephalitis.
