Obituary
William Edward Teagle was born on October 11, 1933 in Pocomoke City, Maryland and was the only child of the late Ollie Holden Teagle and Alonzo Teagle. He was baptized and received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a very young age. Educated in the Worchester County Public Schools, he received his diploma in 1951.
William entered the United States Army after High School where he honorably served our country during
the Korean War. He settled in Philadelphia in 1955, where he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Groce who he married on April 7, 1956 with a love that was returned 100 fold. Their union was blessed with 5 children. William was a devoted husband to Mary whom he affectionately called “Hun”, and a loving father and Pop-Pop. He was an encourager who tirelessly supported his family and wanted nothing but the best for them. It was of paramount importance to him that his family know The Lord and be positive examples of honor and integrity in the community. His only passion outside of his love of GOD and family was his love of cars. William was an advisor who enjoyed sharing his wisdom with family members which included nuggets like “I don’t want
no beat up woman or no scratched up car” or “Don’t you beat on your woman, if you think you want to hit her then just leave her”. He, without physical force was clear and firm but gentle in spirit when raising his children. “I am not your homie. I am not your friend. No, I will not hang out with you. I am your father. You do as I say in this house!”
William worked several jobs before being recommended by his cousin Rose Gray at Philadelphia Transportation Company, later named Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA). He was a dedicated and hardworking employee which was reflected in his selection to serve the Philadelphia community as a Trolley Driver, Bus Driver and Elevated Train Cashier. The culmination of his career was his promotion
to Supervisor of Cashiers for the Market Frankfort Line before his retirement after 34 years of outstanding service. William’s commitment to family prompted him to retire to care for his ailing Mother and favorite Aunt in 1995.
William was ordained a Deacon at 59th Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA where he served with distinction for many years. He was also a member of the Diaconate Ministry of The Felton Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. Upon the invitation from his son Terrence and daughter in law Dawn, William and Mary relocated to Yorktown, VA in 2018 where they became members of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. Without question, he was a humble man that was loved, admired and respected by many. William was GOD fearing, a protector, a defender, a provider and a stellar example of all a husband and father should be.
William rose to the loving arms of the Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 8, 2022. Joyful memories of a loving and caring, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend will long be shared by his wife Mary; children Kevin Teagle (Deborah), Marcia Teagle, Tracey Scott (Hector), Terrence Teagle(Dawn Robin), Mark Teagle (Dawn Terri), 10 Grandchildren; Carl William Parker (Norlisa), Lady Manea Harrod (Andre), Devin Teagle, Tyler Teagle, Brianna Rosa-Scott, Taylor Teagle, Kevin Justin Teagle, Myah Rosa-Scott, Kayla Rosa-Scott, Korinne Louise Teagle; 3 Great-Grandchildren, Andre Lucas Harrod, Myles Xavier Parker, Ari Loren Harrod.
We take comfort in knowing that William is now in the presence of the Lord. Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
