Note from EDP Coordinator
With the understanding that individual teacher work significantly affects student achievement, we started the Education Development Project in 2008. Six workshops with various themes were delivered to teachers of local schools, providing new perspectives on interactive teaching and learning. One objective of the project is that teachers will apply what they have learnt in their own classrooms - the way in which they deliver lessons will become more interactive and this will in turn increase student motivation and achievement. We also expect the teachers to become the change agent and to be able to
inspire other teachers in their institution.
The success of EDP 1 in 2008 was indicated by the enthusiasm of the
participants. Their positive feedback has encouraged us to continue the project. In 2011, we conducted EDP 2. We developed more activities to facilitate teachers’ learning. We had 6 workshops, a book drive for 3 local schools (SMPN 36 Bandung, SMPN 1 Padalarang and SMPN 3 Margahayu), and the opportunity for participants to participate in classroom visits to Bandung International School. The participants of EDP 2 not only came from the Bandung region but also from Kabupaten Bandung, Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Kota Administratif Cimahi, Kabupaten Sumedang, and Kabupaten Purwakarta.
EDP 3 is our program to continue our dream to make a contribution to the development of education in Indonesia, especially in West Java. Our vision is to develop and enhance the professionalism and teaching skills of Indonesian teachers and build a concept of high-quality education. Some of the ways to reach this vision are through delivering programs that will generate awareness of the needs of high-quality education, promote professional development systems that recognize the increasing demands for creativity and innovation, and prepare teachers to develop skillsets needed for innovative models and strategies for interactive teaching and learning.
At the end of EDP 3, the participants have opportunity to write an article about creative and interactive teaching that they have done in their classes. We collect those articles and put into a book entitled Kelas Kreatif. We aim to inspire other teachers to explore creative and interactive teaching practices- and applied the strategies in their classrooms and within the existing curriculum.
