KAW RJ Connections
had such fun! We hope you’ll join us at our next Ladies’ Night IN on March 14 at Sue M’s home.
Our next Ladies’ Night OUT will be January 10, 6:30 p.m. at Peachtree. Thank you, Julie B, for organizing this one. Casual dining of good food with friends – and PIE – will help warm us on a cold winter’s night. Please RSVP to kawrj18@gmail.com so we save a seat for you.
Todah Rabbah
We’re sending our sincerest thanks to all of you who contributed to our URJ Camps Fund. Sending our kids to camp makes a di erence in their lives each and every day! We appreciate your support.
KAWRJ President’s Message
When I was young, there was a co ee house next door to our home called “The Hobbit,” and music groups would frequently come to perform. One called “Up, Up With People” often played We Shall Overcome, the anthem of the Civil Rights Movement. Everyone would hold hands and join in singing. As I look at events around us now, I nd myself humming that tune and thinking about the ways we can join together to make some of the verses in that song become reality.
Through our membership in KAWRJ, we help support WRJ and the work they do. “From advancing women’s leadership and equality in Jewish life and in society- at-large to championing numerous critical social justice issues, WRJ has been at the forefront of major e orts in the work of tikkun olam, repairing the world” (wrj.org). Through our get-togethers and activities, we and future generations can be e ective leaders and advocates for the values we share. In addition, your support of our URJ Camps Fund provides experiences that help build these leaders and make sure that we shape communities where learning and acting upon issues is valued. Thank you to all of you who contributed already.
Sisterhood Retreat
March 23–25, Camp Kalsman, Arlington, WA
(where many of our kids attend summer camp)
Sisterhoods from around the
Paci c NW will gather to share
meals, celebrate Shabbat, learn
from each other, and enjoy time
in the woods. You can join in whatever activities you’d like, or none at all. There will be time for nature walks, noshing, and naps.
The cost is $136 for shared cabin, food, and workshops. KAWRJ members will be reimbursed $50 after a ending, making this an even more a ordable event. Last year nine of us went, and it was quite relaxing and enjoyable. Carpooling made the drive part of the fun.
If you are interested, please contact us at KAWRJ18@ gmail.com and we’ll send you the registration information.
The Whys of Shabbat
Friday, February 9
Do you ever wonder why we do
certain rituals at a Shabbat service?
When are we supposed to bow? Why do we face the door when we sing L’cha Dodi? KAWRJ will lead the Friday night service on February 9, and explain the answers to these question and more. Perhaps understanding when and why we do certain motions will help some of us feel more comfortable participating in Shabbat services.
We thought this would be a nice time for KAWRJ members to host the kiddish as well. If we can count on you to bring something (fruit, cheese, sweets, nuts) let us know that too.
Invite your friends and family so we can share the knowledge while we worship together.
Ladies’ Night In
Well, it was de nitely cold outside, but we had a great “Ladies Night In.” Twenty- ve of us enjoyed good music (thank you, Deni H), good food, and good company by the glow of the Hanukkah candles. We
