P. 3

KAMEHAMEHA THE GREAT was a revered 19th century ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. His burial was kept very secret and is shrouded in mystery. This traditional Hawaiian spirit of secrecy is known to the natives as “mea huna.”
Like mea huna, the pineapple also has great signi cance to the Hawaiian people. It was during Kamehameha’s reign that the fruit was rst widely cultivated on the islands, eventually coming to symbolize a sense of welcome and hospitality.
That’s why pineapples are used throughout this collection, symbolizing hidden storage space for stashing away personal items.
