Creek - Freedman. Former slaves of Muskogee Creek tribal. Descendents of Indian slaves of the Five Civilized Tribes.

Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole.... CREEK. The states
had one way to deal with Indians. Whenever white men wanted Indian land, the tribes were pushed farther west. If Indians protested or tried to defend their land, they were Killed. So everyone got pushed here and given small pieces of land. They described these Indians as "civilized." Meaning they were too weak to cause more trouble. Some of these tribes from the southern states owned slaves - siding with the confederacy adapting the southern traditions of slavery. The white man encouraged it for two reasons. One - To breed out the Indian population by having them mix with white settlers. Two - keep Indians from saving Negros who ran away from white plantations. After the war a new treaty was in place. Treaty said the tribes had to set their slaves go free...and offer them citizenship in the Creek and other Nations.
