“Dad should be here soon,” she said to Tabby as much as to herself. Sure enough, she heard the faint sound of the elevator doors opening and closing down the hall. And then, Dad’s key in the lock.
“Here’s the surprise I promised you this morn- ing,” he said, opening the door wide enough for MaryCatherine to see that he wasn’t alone. “Britta- ny!” MaryCatherine exclaimed as she jumped to her feet. In just a matter of moments, a startled Tabby landed on his feet, and the two sisters were in each other’s arms.
