EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
GSABA LAUNCHES NEW BUILDING CAREERS NETWORK
We are excited to kick off our Building Careers Network this month!
As we look at the upcoming year, one of President Mike Sowry’s priorities is to help our members recruit qualified applicants to ease the labor shortage everyone is facing. Your leadership team has a plan of action in place, and we need your help.
If you attended the Housing Forecast held on January 20th, you heard from Assistant City Manager Alex Lopez that GSABA is joining forces with the City of San Antonio and will be part of their SA: Ready to Work Program. The City of San Antonio passed a $200 Million bond program to train people in various career fields, and the construction trades are well represented in these training programs.
Our goal is to have our members post their open positions on the Building Careers Network by the end of this month. We need to have 100 jobs posted by March 1st to start our aggressive outreach program. We have several initiatives planned to include in-person presentations to our Student Chapter members at St. Philip’s College and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). We also have four Veterans Groups that we will be sharing these jobs/careers with in person. We will have guest speakers attend the construction classes through the SA: Ready to Work program
to share the positions with them as well.
It is easy to post a job position online at sabuilders.com. You will need to log in to your member portal and click on the resource tab for instructions. You will see the categories of work in alphabetical order (job listings correspond with our Membership Directory). If you have not logged into your membership portal account (we call it MIC), please email Haley King at HKing@sabuilders.com, and she will send you an invitation to log in. Stay tuned for updates and success stories coming soon!
I also wanted to share that the Executive Committee recently formed a 2022 Leadership Council chaired by 2020 President Jeff Czar and Co-Chaired by Shad Schmid, First Vice President; Tim Pruski, Second Vice President and Christian Finke, Past Associate Vice President. We

have some exciting programs planned. We will meet every other month starting in April of this year. Please reach out to Jeff at Jeff@kingfishtx. com if you are interested in being part of this dynamic leadership development initiative.
Weathering the COVID-19 pandemic has tested our community in many ways over the past two years. Throughout this time, the single-family construction industry has p roven resilient, adapting to changing circumstances and remaining steadfast in the belief that homeownership should be accessible to everyone. Together, we can make a difference!
Warm Regards,
