   EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
JOIN THE 3 PAC EVENT – YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
November 8th is right around the corner, and we all need to tune into what is happening in our community at the state and national levels. The TexasGovernor’sraceisthecenterofnationalattention. GovernorGreg Abbott is running for re-election against Beto O’Rourke. Beto O’Rourke ran a close race against Senator Ted Cruz in 2018, and this race is getting a lot of local, state, and national attention, and the outside money pouring into the Governor’s race is staggering.
Texas has not had a Democratic Governor since 1994 when then- gubernatorial candidate George W. Bush beat incumbent Democratic Governor Ann Richards.
The Lt. Governor and Attorney General are up for re-election as well. Republicans have controlled every statewide office since 1992 and both Chambers of the Texas Legislature since 2003. All 31 State Senators and 150 House of Representative members are also up for re-election on November 8th. The Republican Party currently holds 83 of the 150 seats in the House and 18 of the 31 seats in the Senate. There are no term limits; each term is four years long.
Elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. In election years ending with two, all seats are up for re-election, but half of the Senators will serve a two-year term, based on a drawing, and the other half will fill regular four-year terms.
Texas is the only state to see a net change of more than one congressional seat after the 2020 Census.
We now have 38 Congressional districts, the second largest delegation in the country. In May of 2023, our San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and every City Council member are up for re-election.
The leaders and members of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) have never been more involved than we have in the past few years. We have connected with every one of our elected officials this year several times. We held face-to-face meetings locally in several cities and have been in Austin and Washington, DC, meeting with our delegates to inform them of our critical issues.
We sincerely need your personal contribution to our local Political Action Committee – the San Antonio Builders PAC. Your contribution will truly make a difference as we support pro-housing and pro-business candidates. At the 3PAC event on October 13th, we will have numerous elected officials and candidates in attendance. This is our opportunity to make our voices heard and strengthen our relationships with the men and women who serve the community.
We are excited to bring you some dynamite training and education in October and November. GSABA is teaming up with the City of San Antonio Development Services Department (DSD) to host classes on the 2021
KRISTI SUTTERFIELD
International Residential and Building Codes. The new codes will go into effect on January 1st, 2023, and everyone needs to be aware of the several local amendments the City of San Antonio is adding to the codes.
We have forged a strong relationship and partnership with the City of San Antonio. We will host an in-person meeting with their leadership team and executive level staff immediately following the GSABA Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, October 18th at 1 pm. The GSABA Board meetings are open, and we invite you to attend our lunch meeting at noon on October 18th. The San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS) CEO, Robert Puente, will also join us at our Board meeting.
Warm Regards,
