JEFF CZAR President
Your Vote is Critical
Election Season is Upon Us
Last week, Texas shattered voter registration records adding more than 1.5 million voters since the last presidential election according to Secretary of State Ruth R. Hughs. The upcoming elections are of critical importance to our industry. The Association has been plugged into what is happening in City Halls across our 22-county jurisdiction, at the state capital and in Washington, D.C.
Our Government Affairs leadership team has identified key elected officials and candidates on the local, state, and national levels – who are friends of the residential construction industry and available to meet with us. It has never been more important to our businesses to get involved, vote and make our voices heard.
We must elect pro-housing and pro-business candidates who will listen to the barriers imposed on housing and fight for homeownership. Our Association is bipartisan, and we support key Republicans and Democrats who are champions of housing.
The local, state, and federal government has no business being involved in building codes and setting energy limits. Over the past few years, special interest groups have lobbied to change and enhance the building and energy codes that will drastically increase the cost of homeownership. Several of the changes to the 2021 Building Codes are overreaching.
Nationwide, the housing shortage is getting more intense. The “ pandemic continues to exacerbate our industry’s persistent labor shortages.
Tariffs and the increase in building materials is hurting profitability and home affordability.
The 87th Legislative session will kick off in January 2021. The State is looking at massive budget shortfalls and the cities we live, build and work in are facing the same revenue shortfalls.
If you haven’t made plans to attend the upcoming 3PAC event on Wednesday, October 7 from 3:00pm – 7:00pm, it’s not too late. We have several elected officials and candidates attending- please see confirmation list at bottom of my article for reservations to date. We need your support and voice!
