DON'T MISS UPCOMING CRITICAL
TRAINING FOR BUILDERS
At the June 17th meeting of the Development Services Department (DSD)
with the City of San Antonio, we learned that only 49% of framing inspections
pass on the first attempt. A deep dive conducted by the DSD team in March
revealed 635 framing-related inspection failures, with the top issues being
fire-blocking (20.2%) and truss/roof framing (20.3%). These failures cost San
Antonio builders over $37,000 in re-inspection fees in a single month—costs
we can all agree are avoidable.
GSABA is partnering with the City’s DSD Combination Inspection
Team to offer a targeted training session in English and Spanish designed
specifically for your construction staff and framing subcontractors. This class
will focus on the most common mistakes inspectors encounter in the field,
how to increase first-time pass rates, reduce costly delays, save your team's
valuable time, and your company resources for re-inspection fees.
To make a true impact, our builder members will need to communicate
directly with your framing contractors, as not all framers are members of our
Association. Please provide the company names and attendee details to
Torrance Abrams at TAbrams@sabuilders.com to make reservations.
We will provide lunch so that the framing crews can maximize their time
away from your jobs. GSABA will host a Spanish-speaking training at 10:00
am and serve lunch at noon. The English version of the training will start
promptly at 12:30 pm with lunch served at noon as well. We will provide a flyer
for you to mail or email to your framing contractors in English and Spanish.
With the 89th Legislative Session in the rear-view mirror, new legislation has
been signed into law by Governor Abbott. We will host a Texas Association
of Builders (TAB) Contracts class with Attorney Don Shelton of Bush,
Rudnicki and Shelton at 11:30 am on Friday, September 12th in the GSABA
Ballroom sponsored by StrucSure Home Warranty, lunch will be served. This
is a must-attend class for Builders and Remodelers. You will find additional
information on this class in the August Builder Brief.
We are excited to share that Gord Cooke, a leading building scientist
from Construction Instruction, will visit GSABA for two days of training on
Thursday, October 9th, and Friday, October 10th. Sponsorship opportunities
are available.
The first class will focus on Humidity and Moisture Management,
specifically addressing humidity and moisture levels inside the home. The
class will concentrate on managing indoor humidity and proven strategies
for water management and mold prevention.

The second class will cover the Evolving
Energy Codes. It will include information from
the 2024 International Energy Conservation
Code (IECC), focusing on air sealing, insulation,
mechanical systems, and an update on the
ENERGY STAR program and federal energy
credits. The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ or ‘Reconciliation
Bill’s’ early termination of energy tax credits,
such as the 45L, is expected to add significant
costs for many of our builders members. Still,
we are pleased with the Senate’s reversal of
course in the treatment of third-party solar leasing
arrangements, which was part of the final piece of
legislation. These classes taught by Gord Cooke
will be held on Thursday, October 9th, and Friday,
October 10th, at GSABA in the Ballroom.
We are working on a one-to-two-hour training
course on When ICE Comes Calling. The
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),
a federal agency of the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security, has detained 56,397 people
according to reports published as of June 15th
and over 70% of those detained have no criminal
records. Please stay tuned for additional details
in the August edition of the Builder Brief.
Please join us for our upcoming Summit
Awards held at the Security Service Federal
Credit Union Events Center on August 7th. There
is more information about this event in this edition
of the Builder Brief. We are so grateful for your
membership!
