EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
SERVE OTHERS WHEN YOU GET INVOLVED AT GSABA
Fall is my favorite time of the year. Cooler weather, a little slower pace and the holidays! My all-time favorite GSABA event is the Military Luncheon that is held on the Friday before Thanksgiving. This luncheon is hosted by our Building Believers Council in conjunction with Agora Ministries and the GSABA Board of Directors. Last year, we had to cancel the Military Luncheon due to COVID, and I am proud to say that we served our community in several other ways with the funds and donations made to those in need over the Thanksgiving holiday.
This year, we have a green light to host an in-person event, and the date is set-Friday, November 19th at the Association in the Ray Ellison Ballroom. We will have a full Thanksgiving feast to share with 200+ Air Force Cadets, many who have never been away from home for the holidays. Thanks to the generous support of Parrish and Company, we will be able to provide gift sacks with devotionals, candy, and gift cards.
The event is led by Bryan Lee, with Lee Landscaping and every year, Bryan puts his heart and soul into the luncheon and serving others. Agora Ministries, members of Building Believers and the GSABA Board of Directors all donate and provide contributions and food to make this event magical. Several members work the event with Colby Duke and the Hotchkiss team deep frying 50 turkeys starting at dark thirty on Friday morning along with Trevor Morton, Scott Whisenant, the Hollaway men and others.
If you would like to donate or bring food or desserts, you can go online to https://agoraministries.com/gsaba/ and sign up to bring food, volunteer or donate.
You may not know that GSABA members serve others all year long. I want to highlight a few incredible things that our Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) members are doing and what our Young Professionals Leadership Council (YPLC) has been up to with you.
On October 2nd, from 8:00am to 11:00am, members of SMC will participate in the Autism Speaks Fundraiser & Walk at Mission County Park. Autism affects one in 54 children and is on the rise based on CDC reports. On Friday, November 19th, SMC will team up with Jefferson Outreach Services for Seniors to deliver pies to each of them at their home. You can contact Raquel Simon Calderon with Builder Guides, Inc. at (210) 984-4092 to volunteer to provide and deliver five pies.
If you are in new home sales or sell a product or service for new homes, we invite you to join SMC. This Council hosts the Sales and Marketing Million Dollar Circle Awards each year and have monthly meetings with speakers in addition to service projects. Call SMC Chair Delayna Kessler, with Builder Boost at (210) 268-9396 for more information on how to join.
Our Young Professionals Leadership Council (YPLC) has been busy. The Council joined forces with The Mission in January/ February 2021. The Council’s service project was the Gardopia Garden in East San
KRISTI SUTTERFIELD
Antonio. One of the goals of The Mission is to reduce obesity and malnutrition by increasing accessibility to fresh produce through schools, businesses, and community organizations.
YPLC also hosted a Bowling FUNdraiser on July 15th and raised $3,750 for Heroes Sports. F by Veteran Mike Barker, Heroes Sports is a non-profit organization for military men and women on active duty, veterans and those transitioning out of the service. The organization uses recreation activities to increase mental/ physical health and team building.
Stay tuned for YPLC’s Holiday Toy Drive benefiting Strong Foundation Ministry — a nonprofit that helps homeless families with children get a fresh start. Each year, the toy drive provides gifts to dozens of children who would not otherwise be able to have a celebration. Please call Wyndy Clark at (210) 708-0309 or Jorge Flores at (210) 303-5055 to donate a toy today or you can drop it by the Association.
Thank you to all our members who make a difference every day. While we advocate and fight for the residential construction industry, many of our members serve our community regularly.
It is an honor and a privilege to lead this association with President Berlanga, the Executive Team, Staff and Board of Directors. We invite you to join the fun by getting more involved in YOUR Association!
Warm regards,
