   2024 PRESIDENT
WORKING FOR YOU ON LOCAL, STATE & NATIONAL LEVELS
I have been serving as your President for four months now and have learned a lot about what the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) both do on our behalf. When you join the Greater San Antonio Builders Association, you are also a member of TAB and NAHB, and we send a portion of your dues payment to them.
Your leadership team is headed to Washington, DC the second week of June to meet with our Congressional delegation. The Legislative Conference will be hosted by NAHB and their policy experts are working daily for our members on regulatory, legislative, and legal issues that affect your business and bottom line.
We have seen some major victories on the regulatory front recently when the U.S. Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision to define water regulations that benefit builders and homebuyers. Workforce Development is at the top of their priority list and the House Committee on Education & Workforce approved NAHB-supported legislation that will reaffirm congressional support for the Job Corps so we can tackle our nation’s skilled labor shortage. The Stronger Workforce for America Act recommends $1.7 billion per year in funding for the Job Corps. This is the nation’s most successful career preparation program for disadvantaged youth.
We will also be meeting with our elected officials to advocate for increased transformer supply and more reasonable building codes. GSABA is working to bring our members more education on the energy and electric codes; and we are hosting a training class on Thursday, May 9th on the 2023 National Electric Code and the 2021 International Energy Code. This two-hour training class will be held immediately following our Seguin City Team Breakfast. Thank you to our presenting partner CPS, our partner in education, and Burgess Consultants, our lunch partner, for helping us make this event happen.
Your Government Affairs Committee has been working diligently with the cities, counties, and municipalities that we develop, build, and work in. The city of Seguin is growing rapidly, and we invite you to join us May 9th for a breakfast meeting with City Manager Steve Parker, Assistant City Manager Rick Cortez; Pamela Centeno, Director of Planning & Codes; Mellisa Reynolds, Director of Engineering and Tim Howe, Director of Waste/Wastewater at 8:30 am at GSABA in the Ballroom. There is no charge to attend but reservations are a must. Please make your reservation online at www.sabuilders.com.
We also host bi-monthly meetings with the City of San Antonio and Cibolo. You can find the dates and times on the calendar in this Builder Brief. April was membership month at GSABA, and we recruited over 25 new member companies to the association. I want to thank Randy
TIM PRUSKI
Oliver with Hollywood Crawford for being our Membership Sponsor and thank the members who worked on the drive and brought in new members!
We do need your support for the upcoming breakfast for Congressman Tony Gonzales on Tuesday, May 21st at 8:30 am at GSABA. Congressman Gonzales has been a staunch supporter of GSABA and NAHB. We strongly encourage you to support this important event with personal funds. Please make your checks to the Tony Gonzales Campaign. Re-electing Congressman Gonzales will benefit all of us! You can find details on all our upcoming events at www.sabuilders.com.
Sincerely, Tim Pruski
