ONWARD & UPWARD: GSABA PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING MARCHES TOWARDS SUCCESS
In 2023, the inception of the inaugural Professional Women in Building (PWB) chapter for the Greater San An- tonio Builder’s Association (GSABA) marked a significant milestone. As founding members convened in January, our collective purpose was crystal clear: to establish a platform aimed at educating, empowering, and support- ing women in the industry. Reflecting on the past year, we take pride in the remarkable journey filled with enriching educational sessions, networking opportunities, camara- derie, and philanthropic endeavors.
Our journey commenced with a dedicated team shar- ing a unified vision for the chapter's development. Togeth- er, we formed the executive committee comprising Molly Sowry, Kendall Schrader, Jeanne Conger, Abby Johan- son, Margo Villarreal, Kimberly Lawrence, Paula Grigsby, Lisa Hall, Kathy Howard, Debra Guerrero, Susan Wright, Cara Tackett and myself, Tammy Zink. The support from President Shad Schmid, Immediate Past President Mike Sowry, and the GSABA Sr. Officers Tim Pruski, Jeff Ku- wamura, and Brady Johanson truly made a difference.
Education initiatives took center stage early on. Our inaugural Lunch and Learn session featured Mona Helmy, a local entrepreneur, and artist, who shared her inspiring
journey of overcoming adversity to achieve success in both business and personal endeavors. Additionally, our Empowerment in Power Tools event provided invaluable insights as industry experts demonstrated various job-re- lated power tools, fostering empowerment among attend- ees.
In a commitment to nurturing the next generation, members of the executive committee and GSABA staff commemorated Women in Building Week by conducting educational seminars for students at the Construction Careers Academy.
Networking flourished with a vibrant prospective mem- ber happy hour, solidifying our chapter's foundation. The engaging Witches & Wine Bingo Event provided a unique blend of networking opportunities and charitable giving, with proceeds benefiting Magdalena House.
Demonstrating our commitment to giving back, we supported Magdalena House through a successful school supply drive and donations from the Bingo Night event. Ad- ditionally, we partnered with the San Antonio Blood Bank, hosting a blood drive to contribute to the community's wel- fare. PWB will host our second annual blood drive from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, April 16th.
Looking ahead, the Greater San Antonio Builder’s Association PWB chapter continues its trajectory as one of the nation's fastest-growing chapters. Notable events
