Are you ready to build a new home but don’t know where to start? The Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) is made up of 820 member companies representing over 10,000 professionals in our 22-county jurisdiction. We are proud of our members and their achievements. GSABA offers critical code training and relevant workshops to help our members stay abreast of the latest construction techniques and code require- ments. Any one of our builder or remodeler members can help you take the next step.
There are a few things you will want to know about your builder or remodeler. They should have a permanent business location, have a complete and clearly written contract, and carry suffi- cient workers comp and general liability insurance. Checking
references and touring homes that are under construction or have been recently completed by the builder or remodeler is important too. Communication styles are critical to a successful relationship, so make sure that you find someone who will meet your needs.
One of the primary reasons we host the Parade of HomesTM is to showcase our builders, vendors, suppliers, and members. There are new building materials available today, and technology continues to evolve. As we work with the new mandated energy codes and our local, state, and federal government’s desire to have net zero energy in residential construction, we do need to take a common sense approach. Housing affordability continues to fall due to increasing code standards (some that will take over 100 years to recoup the investment), rising interest rates, and rising material costs.
Homeownership not only builds equity but also provides stability for both families and individ- uals. Most Americans consider homeownership to be the single best long-term investment. Housing is also vitally important to our local, state, and national economies. About 15 percent of the U.S. Economy relies on housing, and nothing packs a bigger local economic impact than home building.
As we look to the future, housing as an investment is the number one reason that people buy homes. Homeownership is a source of pride, accomplishment, social stability, and peace of mind. A healthy housing industry means more jobs and a stronger local economy.
