Q
You serve on the Board
of Directors for Central Catholic High School and will serve as GSABA’s President next year as well. How do you find the time to volunteer and lead?
I dedicate my personal time to GSABA and to various Catholic Charities and schoolsinSanAntonio. Ienjoyservingon the Central Catholic High School Board. It is important to serve and my Mother instilled a servant’s heart in me from a very young age. My faith is very important to me.
I would recommend seeking out a mentor that has served on the board of directors or as a past president. GSABA 2010 President Jack Uptmore made an impact on me and he is one of the reasons I decided to step up into a leadership role. Jack told me to find my spot or my passion with the Association and then to go and make a difference.
The Million Meals for Kids program with the San Antonio Food Bank is one of my passions. Our company donates to this program every year. We also participate in multiple events with our friends at Kens5 helping kids and families in need. I see firsthand what a difference the meals make in the lives of so many young people.

Q
What advice would
you give other members wanting to get into leadership roles at GSABA?
Q
Did you know any GSABA members growing up? Share a favorite memory.
Most people may not know that Jack Inselmann was a star basketball player in High School and College. I can remember playing in pickup basketball games with Jack when I was in high school and he was in college. For those of you who do not know Jack, he has presented the GSABA Housing Forecast for the past 35 years.
I am proud of the executive management team and my partners at Texas Homes. Drake Thompson, Tim Swinney, John Teeple and Charles Stehling, and I purchased the Texas Division of McMilllin Homes in 2014 and we built under the McMillin Texas Homes name for five years. We changed our brand to Texas Homes in 2018. While I serve as the CEO and general partner, the management team is responsible for our success along with our employees who are extremely long tenured and dedicated to giving their best every day.
Purchasing McMillin Homes inspired me to want to lead and be part of a team that creates something a little different. Texas Homes is both a land developer and builder. We are lean and agile, and take pride in developing and creating communities. My team inspires me every day.
I want to be able to keep up with my Bride of thirty years, Kitty Berlanga and travel the world with her and with my sons. Kitty is the Accounting Manager for the Culinary Institute of San Antonio and she recently won a walk challenge competition by walking over 600K steps in the CIA Fit Walk challenge this past June. I have a lot of walking to do if I ever want to catch up!
