The Power of Advocacy
Join us for Rally Day February 24th
Our collective voices are our number one strength in the political arena. Never in the history of the homebuilding industry has our one-on-one engagement and advocacy efforts been so critical. The cost of housing is skyrocketing. Material shortages continue to be an issue. Permit and inspection delays are costing GSABA members unnecessary costs and, in some instances, the entire sale.
Housing Affordability to be a Top Concern
Supply side pressures, limited lot inventories and skilled labor shortages will affect every part of the homebuilding industry in 2021. As Texas’ 87th Legislative Session kicks off, the State budget shortfall could impact all of us. We need to be vigilant in sharing that 25 percent of the cost of building single-family homes is attributed to local, state and federal regulatory costs.
Housing is one of the driving forces behind the economic recovery and is one of the few sectors experiencing year- over-year job gains. Even though the residential construction industry added 15,400 net jobs in November, we need to continue to recruit workers to residential construction trades. Together we need to influence labor policy and concentrate on workforce development to address the labor shortage and housing affordability.
Please join us for Rally Day in Austin on Wednesday, February 24th. You’ll find additional information with details on the next page of this issue of Builder Brief.
