Educational Opportunity Terms Simpli ed
Brevard Public Schools o ers a wide variety of educational program opportunities designed to meet student interests. Check out the list of educational program opportunity terms and overviews:
Advanced Placement (AP)
The AP program provides an opportunity for students to pursue college-level studies while still in secondary school and to receive high school and college credit. By challenging
and stimulating students, the AP program provides access to high quality education, accelerates learning, rewards achievement and enhances both high school and college programs.
The AP program is o ered at selected secondary schools and enrollment is open to zoned
and non-zoned students.
Advanced International Certi cate of Education (AICE)
The Advanced International Certi cate of Education
Program (AICE) program is a program of studies administered by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. The speci c
course for which the student receives credit is determined by the community college or university that accepts the student for admission. The AICE program is o ered at selected secondary schools and enrollment is open to zoned and non-zoned students.
Career Academy
A career academy is a high school-based,“school within school,”industry-driven model that integrates academic and career-related curricula with a small group of teachers who teach common students and work as a team to plan and manage the program. Career academy enrollment is open to zoned and non-zoned students.
Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Career and technical education (CTE) is a program of study that involves a multi-year sequence of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.
CTE enrollment is open to zoned and non-zoned students.

Choice School
Elementary schools of choice o er innovative educational experiences in math, science, the arts, leadership, technology and creativity through a school tailored curriculum. Junior/senior high schools of choice share a common goal of high academic achievement and an accelerated learning environment to prepare
students for college level success. Choice schools have no neighborhood boundaries assigned to the school. Enrollment is determined annually through an application and lottery process.
Collegiate High School, Early Admissions, Full/Part-time Dual Enrollment
Collegiate high school, early admissions, and full/part-time
dual enrollment are accelerated program options. These dual
enrollment programs provide opportunities for eligible students
to take challenging college courses on the high school and/or
college campus. Students who successfully complete dual enrollment courses will save time toward their college degree and save money with free tuition and textbooks. Students meeting the course grade ful ll high school graduation requirements and receive college credit toward an associate’s degree. The dual enrollment program opportunities are o ered at all secondary schools.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program
The IB program is a rigorous pre-university course of study that leads to internationally standardized examinations. Designed as a comprehensive two-year
curriculum, the program allows its graduates to ful ll requirements of many di erent nations’ education systems. Students completing IB courses and exams are eligible for postsecondary education credit, dependent on the scores received. The IB program is o ered at select secondary schools and
enrollment is open to zoned and non-zoned students.
Magnet School
Magnet schools o er a specialized theme-based program designed to attract students for the purpose of promoting or maintaining a diverse student population
in all schools. Magnet school enrollment is open to zoned and non-zoned students, however; if necessary, enrollment may be determined through an application and lottery process.
