When we originally began planning for the spring issue of of Heart of of Brevard in in late February the focus was to be on showcasing and celebrating our incredible community partners and the demonstration of support
of of public education in in tin Brevard County However as as we we we we we sat in in tin in our editorial meetings we we we we we were also keenly aware that the the the coronavirus was sweeping the the the globe Within two weeks the the the world as as we we we knew it it came to a a a grinding halt Like many many of of you the the last three months have felt like like the the longest in my memory Also like like many many of of of you I am a a a a a a a a a a a a parent parent and a a a a a a a a a a a a parent parent of of a a a a a a a a a a a a senior no less who was supposed to graduate in May We have have have endured something none of us could could have have have imagined nor planned for Who could could have have have predicted that that there would would be a a a a a a a a a a a a global pandemic that that would would change our way of of life? The anxiety uncertainty and fear of of of the the the unknown took centerstage in in the the the lives of of Americans as the the the days turned to weeks and eventually months As a a a a parent community member and employee of of BPS I am deeply proud of of the response response to to this virus from our school district The first response response was to to ask how can we support
not just education but our community during this time? A county-wide feeding program was mobilized to to ensure that children in in in tin Brevard County had access to to nutritious food The immense feat of incorporating remote learning for nearly 70 000 students in tin in in just two weeks came together under the the leadership and teamwork of of hundreds of of dedicated educational technology staff staff members Our teachers our our our principals our our our staff staff and and and our our our leadership teams have stepped into expanded roles and and and and put in in in countless hours and and and and they they did so with the the the the welfare of of each of of of our our our students and and their families in in in mind as they they helped to shape the the role of of education in in in in our our community during a a a a global crisis Our Superintendent often says “Brevard takes care o of Brevard Brevard ” While this magazine edition looks just a a a a a a a bit different from how i it it it was originally intended it it it it still celebrates the incredible support
of our community for public education in in a a a a a a a a a very unique way way Coronavirus may have stripped away some of our control but it it helped us us to to come together as a a a a a a a a a a a community and find new ways of of working all while being united under the the banner of of One Brevard It is my sincere hope you enjoy the the the photographs within these pages as as it it has long been said that a a a a a a a a a picture is worth a a a a a a a a a a a thousand words In times like these images speak to our hearts as as we we see the the the genuine care and support
for one another as as we we we rise up up to to become a a a a a a a a a community we we can all be be be proud to to be be a a part of 34
