 About the Awards
Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership
The principal achievement award for outstanding leadership was established in 1988 to recognize exemplary principals for their contributions to their schools and communities. This program honors principals that have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance and promote safe learning environments, often through establishing partnerships with parents and community members.
Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award
The outstanding assistant principal award recognizes exemplary assistant principals for their contributions to their schools and communities. The program honors assistant principals that have utilized teamwork and leadership skills to also increase student performance, and promote safe learning environments.
Volunteer of the Year
The Outstanding School Volunteer Award is presented annually to school volunteers who have shown outstanding dedication and commitment to their school through volunteer service. This award is given in three categories – adult, youth and senior. Volunteers are selected based on the number of hours of service, years of service, type of contribution and/or characteristics of services rendered.
School Related Employee of the Year
The Florida School-Related Employee of the Year program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for their contributions to their schools and communities. One person is chosen to represent Brevard at the state level. Florida honors one state representative and four finalists who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs, thereby earning them the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators, co-workers and parents.
Teacher of the Year Award
The Florida Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year Program celebrates the contributions
of classroom teachers who demonstrate a superior capacity to inspire and increase the learning of students of all backgrounds and abilities. Since its inception in 1988, the program continues to be a prestigious honor drawing participation from Florida’s 74 public school systems and other institutions. Brevard selects six finalists and chooses one teacher to represent the school district at the state level. The state selected Teacher of the Year serves as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for education, pursuant to §1012.77, Florida Statutes, for the new school year. In this capacity, he or she acts as a representative and spokesperson for the teaching profession
Rookie and Emerging Teacher of the Year Awards
These categories recognize the exceptionally skilled and dedicated first and second year teachers at the high school, middle school, and elementary school level who have gained the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues. These teachers inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, and are dedicated and passionate about education.
