By Randy Wheeler, assistant director transportation services
Those of you who drive district owned vehicles on a regular basis should soon be seeing something small but with big benefits for BPS; and it fits in the palm of your hand. It’s a new key fob used for fueling vehicles.
Last year Transportation Services upgraded the fuel control system and software that manages the district’s nine automated fueling sites. The older system had become so obsolete that repair parts and technical support were no longer available. As a result, it was replaced with the more
modern FUELMASTER system by Syntech. This new fuel management system manages more efficiently the district’s fuel dispensing and heightens security.
FUELMASTER uses a proprietary key fob called a Prokee that contains an embedded solid
state memory chip. This chip allows storage of important information such as mileage, hours in service, vehicle type, identification numbers, etc. The information may be read, erased, or updated at the discretion of Transportation Services.
The Prokee also makes
it possible
to track important key
performance indicators such as MPG and annual vehicle mileage.
USING PROKEE
Unlike the old proximity fobs that you simply waved in front of the reader, Prokee must be
inserted into the reader in order for the fuel terminal to read the embedded information. Inserting Prokee in the reader initiates a five step security protocol:
Step 1--Validate Prokee
The FUELMASTER terminal reads the embedded information on
the Prokee to authenticate that it is valid and active. A lost, missing or stolen Prokee can be rendered inactive by
Transportation Services via the network within seconds.
Step 2 -- Current Employee
The FUELMASTER terminal now prompts for your employee ID number. Only enter the last five digits.
All current
district employees may
use any Prokee for dispensing fuel. In the event
