El día 9 de marzo de 1911 fue colocada la primera piedra del Palace, ceremonia que presidió el rey de España Alfonso XIII.
El ambicioso proyecto del hotelero belga Georges Marquet fue apoyado por el monarca, convencido de la necesidad y urgencia de construir en Madrid un hotel de gran categoría.
On March 9, 1911, the first stone was placed of the Palace Hotel in a ceremony presided over by the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII. The ambitious project of the Belgian hotelier, Georges Marquet, was supported by the king, who was convinced of the need and urgency of building a grand hotel in Madrid.
