CUMBRIAN FARMER AND BRITISH BLUE COUNCIL MEMBER WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
Cumbrian livestock farmer and long-standing British Blue Council Member, John Hall, was awarded the David Thomlinson Award at the Borderway Agri-Expo.
This prestigious award was launched by Harrison & Hetherington in 2021, following David Thomlinson’s sad and very untimely death because of a tragic farm accident. The award aims to recognise a person within the livestock industry to be a passionate livestock farmer and role model.
Farming, along with his family at Inglewood Edge since 1949, John has achieved much success and has become widely known and respected throughout the livestock industry.
John first became a member of the British Blue Cattle Society Council, when the breed was knows as the Belgian Blue Cattle Society and after serving as President of the Society from 2015-2017, was re-nominated back on to Council and continues to this day.
He has also served as a Council Member and Inspector for the Beltex Sheep Society, travelling the length and breadth of the country, and is still actively showing his Sheep, along with his daughter, Joanne.
The judging panel, consisted of David Thomlinson’s wife, Sheila Thomlinson, his neighbour and close friend David McRea, and former colleague and friend David Pritchard.
John is also a solid supporter of auction marts and only sells his stock live through the ring as he firmly believes this is the only way to keep getting a fair price for what he has produced.
John, who was completely overcome on receiving his award, commented: “I am stunned and absolutely thrilled. I can’t comprehend that people think so much of me. It is such an honour.”
