Dylan Townend spoke to the club after the AGM in
February. Dylan works for Tithe Barn Mineral Supplements
and he brought samples and explained the ingredients
and the use of each. There is a wide range to suit all needs
and the fact that Dylan uses the products on his own cattle
is a great advocate for the products with his team being at
the fore at shows and sales across the country.
We had a guest speaker in March at the Burghwallis, a true
Gentleman, Mike Bingham from nearby Blyth. Mike is a
retired College Lecturer of Agriculture and is still involved
in tutoring and mentoring novices in old farming practices
especially pertaining to working horses. Members had a
very entertaining evening with plenty of banter and yarns.
The Club met at Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield in March for
an evening of Grey Hound racing organised by Ashley
Mills. We had a box and although not a particularly
profitable evening for most, it was great fun with good
food and company.
Dylan organised a fantastic day out in June. Twenty five
members gathered at the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham
for a very interesting brewery tour and this was followed
by Sunday lunch and the chance to sample the different
beers. We then travelled five miles down the road, where
more members joined us at the farm of Rodney brothers
of Masham, we were welcomed by Liam Rodney and
girlfriend Katie Challis. On a beautiful sunny afternoon we
were taken for a trailer ride over the fields to look at some
amazing cattle. Mostly Blue Bulls with Blue and Limousin
cows, all of excellent quality. The Rodney Family were
thanked by Vice Chairman, Malcolm Taylor, for their
hospitality and were given a thank you gift.
The Herd Competition was judged by Ian McNee in August
and September. Eleven members from across the region
entered the competition and Ian was remarkably
impressed by the standard of cattle. The results were
announced at the Annual Dinner and Awards evening held
at Pontefract Golf Club in December where Plaques and
Certificates were awarded to all the prize winners.
