Save the planet
time to switch from plastic or metal food trays
Boost your environmental credentials by switching to eco-friendly paper pulp meal trays and ditching plastic or metal food containers.
That’s the message from British company Bullseye, which has developed a system of packing and sealing care sector meals using its bespoke meal trays and easy to use sealing machines. The result is a ready-packed meal which can be delivered fresh, frozen or chilled for transit then reheated in a microwave or conventional oven whenever and wherever the meal is needed. It’s a fast, safe solution and, not surprisingly, already a big hit with dozens of care homes and meals-on-wheels providers across the UK.
Other big advantages with the Bullseye solution include the fact that the trays come with separate compartments to protect each element of the meal – such as rice, potatoes, meat dishes, pasta and sauces – with the safe-seal film ensuring that the elements don’t mix in transit. Another big plus for those handling the trays is that the paper doesn’t get hot like a metal tray or go soft in the oven like plastic. So there is an important health and safety benefit too.
Now, the Bullseye trays are being used everywhere from a Mongolian mine to a Scottish police cell and a Harrogate home meals service.
Other care providers have been taking these unique meal trays to create additional choice and flexibility for their residents. This includes award- winning villages with a mix of 24-hour care households, independent living apartments and a range of leisure amenities. They use Bullseye trays and sealing equipment in a central kitchen to provide the convenience of a wide choice of ‘ready meals’ which are chilled or even frozen to -40°C. The company can also provide insulated transit bags tailored for its meal trays and many customers have discovered this is also a very flexible way of creating a ‘bank’ of pre-prepared meals for those with special dietary needs or catering for those requiring ethnic meal options outside the daily meal menu. In e ect, the Bullseye system gives a tailored, fast-response solution to providing perfect meals for everyone.
The man behind Bullseye is Peter Prior, a hands-on entrepreneur who more than ten years after setting up the company is still the one you’ll most likely meet when you ask for a no-nonsense, no-obligation advisory meeting. For NACC members, the set-up, training and equipment you need often comes without a charge and you’ll never be forced to sign a burdensome contract – the only requirement is to purchase his trays when using the Bullseye system. “I’ve helped so many care kitchens make the transition to Bullseye and I know most of the kitchen teams by name. They know they can pick up the phone for advice at any time and they’ll get honest support based on our long experience in the sector,” says Peter. What’s to lose?
