      CHAIRMAN’S
MESSAGE
Whilst there are many exciting prospects for the New Year, for the new Millennium indeed, the air is tinged with sad- ness because at the end of 2000 Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal stepped down from our Presidency. On behalf of the Trustees, Council and Members we thank her for the enlight- ened interest that she has taken in all our affairs and for the encouragement that she has given to so many of our nominees and award winners.
We look forward to three exciting award cere- monies in the first half of the year; the Film Awards, taking place just after this magazine is published, fol- lowed by the Television Craft in April and Television in May. Plans to continue the gradual refur- bishment of members spaces in the Academy continue and the prospects for a rich programme of events at 195 throughout 2001 are very good. ■

ONE LIFE STAND SCREENING AND DISCUSSION

strand of events in partnership with the New Producer’s Alliance. These events look at the impact of new technologies on the film-making process, and the changes in perceptions and aesthetics engendered by digital film-making. The BAFTA Scotland New Talent multi-award-winner One Life Stand is a remarkable exam- ple of how this works. Writer and Director May Miles Thomas and Executive Producer Owen Thomas will be at the Academy to dis- cuss how they used new technologies to make the film, and how this affected and changed the product.
Please join us at BAFTA to see this groundbreaking film and have a chance to meet the film-makers. There will be time for the audience to ask questions after the screening. Event Produced by Kevin Dolan, NPA.
Our next event in this series will take place on March 27 so put the date in your diary.
