11 Larkfield Road
Harman Slade – Clerical Worker & A.R.P. Stretcher Bearer during World War Two
It was not until the mid 1950s that the Flowers family finally left 11 Larkfield Road and they were soon followed by the Slade family.
Head of household, Harman Slade, was born on 18 February 1909.A clerical worker, the gentleman also served his country during the Second World War as an Air Raid Precaution Stretcher Bearer.
Harman Slade lived at 11 Larkfield Road until the mid 1970s with his wife Marjorie,
Sarah Van Niekerk – Artist
In the mid 1970s SarahVan Niekerk and her young family moved into 11 Larkfield Road.
Born in 1935, Sarah Van Niekerk was educated at Bedales School and then studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. She went on to become an acknowledged expert in the art of wood engraving.
The Niekerk’s only resided at
11 Larkfield Road for a short period and were followed by the current residents of the Richmond house, Christopher and Celia Hodges.
