BA Brief History of
11 Larkfield Road
The building of 11 Larkfield Road
In the late 1870s the grounds of Larkfield Lodge were developed and in 1879 11 Larkfield Road was built.
The road backed onto the grounds of what had been formerly known as Lumley Lodge but was now known as The Cedars, and now an upmarket and exclusive Health Spa and facility.
11 Larkfield Road was originally known as 12 Larkfield Road and up until the mid 1890s the house was also identified sometimes as 12 Larkfield Road East.
An 1891 map of the vicinity of Larkfield Road shows the recently built street, with the section where 11 Larkfield Road stands named as Larkfield Road East.At the rear of Larkfield Road East can be seen the grounds of the impressive and imposing Cedar’s
First Resident Of No.11; Mrs Young
The first ever resident of what was then known as 12 Larkfield Road was listed purely on documents of the period as a MrsYoung. MrsYoung lived at what is now known as 11 Larkfield Road until the year 1887. Unfortunately very early documents for Larkfield Road did not list occupations, with the 1882 Street Directory for Richmond just listing only one resident in Larkfield Road – that of Arthur Turner, a local solicitor
who lived at no.9 Larkfield Road.
