And Mrs Hillgarth’s reply dated 1 April 2015... Segar,
I have now had the chance to fully investigate the accusations made in your email of 26th March and will now comment accordingly.
Having spoken in depth to Stella and her mother, I have satisfied myself that the contents of your email are quite inaccu- rate and untrue. Stella and her mother were in the flat and therefore it was not left unsupervised as you claim.
The gathering was a small house party for the end of the term with a few of her friends displaying their artwork (Stella studies Art alongside other subjects).
In addition, she confirmed that nobody drank or smoked in the flat or in the area surrounding it. The photo you attached shows a small group of people gathered on a very busy commercial Central London street, I am confused as to what you are trying to prove? This is the sort of scene you see regularly.
Stella confirms that all those who attended on Tuesday were her friends and she knew each and every one of them. The gathering took place between 6.30 pm and 11 pm, and furthermore, Stella had left a note apologising and saying to her neighbours that it would be just for a few hours (I am surprised you haven’t managed to attach a photo of this). The poster on the front door was just to ensure her friends knew they were in the right place.
Stella confirmed that her friends were extremely polite and there was no music at all.
You state that “Paul had to eject a man hiding in the cleaners cupboard at 4.30pm on Wednesday, and two items have recently been stolen from the common parts (a Chinese dragon head and one mail package opened and the contents removed, as well as some damage inflicted on the door to Flat 6”. Why would anyone want to hide in a cupboard at 4.30pm in the afternoon the day after.. are you suggesting that this was one of the party guests who had lost his way?! Again I am unsure what you are claiming here. The door to Flat 6 has got some Chinese New Year poster stuck to it with Sellotape which is most unattractive. I was not aware one was permitted to decorate one’s door in this way. In view of the new décor, perhaps it’s a new trend you are encouraging in the common part?
Your recording is inaudible so you might like to rerecord another one for my records... As far as I can tell it sounds like a phone being picked up (the crumpling sound) and someone walking down the stairs. Having said that, it could have been recorded anywhere, in your flat, in the street etc....
For the record, before Jamil’s latest tenant moved out, the wall between the first landing and second landing was unmarked and strangely enough afterwards I discovered scratches (see attached). I would hate to follow your lead and immediately blame the tenant but since it’s your custom to do so, I thought I would bring it out. As far as the floor is con- cerned, I would hardly describe it as “heavily soiled” but if it’s dirty, isn’t this exactly what we employ cleaners for?
This is not the first time that you and Paul are falsely accusing my tenants of things they have not done. It is becoming increasingly apparent that Management is resentful of other leaseholders renting their properties since they are not all in the position to do so themselves.
As far as items disappearing in the common part, I suggest you remove all dragons, false plants, furniture (so they don’t obstruct fire escapes) and you leave it as it has always been. Clean and classic.
Best Michele
I can confirm 100% Mr Karupiah’s observations as not only did he actually attend the “party”, somewhat incognito and not known to the tenant with no request for ID etc, but I also entertained two young visitors using the stairs on the third floor for their computing purposes and the fire escape for drinking, smoking and chatting. Seeing as I, too, smoke, and com- pute and chat it was no problem, save for as Mr Karupiah pointed out, the main front door was unattended with an invita- tion poster for one and all to attend and that was the worry and problem made clear to Mrs Hillgarth.
I repeat, Mrs Hillgarth does not welcome criticism, requests nor compliances!
