MESSAGE from Craig Jensen, President
This month I wanted to take a moment to talk a little
bit about government affairs. As an industry, we are unfortunately met with regulatory burdens more often than not. In many communities, builders are expected
to build homes at a price point that fall out of reach of
the vast majority of our workforce. Just as problematic, builders are often prevented from building a housing product that is in high-demand with the largest segments of our population – one that allows for the higher density necessary to create vibrant, walkability neighborhoods.

Because we recognize that even the best “message” is lost on some people, it is important that we work to have the right kinds of leaders in elected of ce. That’s why, for the rst time in many years, BAGI will be actively fundraising for its Political Action Committee – HOME PAC – in order to “change the audience”. By combining contributions from BAGI members, HOME PAC is able to help support local candidates who embrace policies which will favor the home building industry. This gives our industry an opportunity to support of cials who
For these reasons, I’ve made government affairs a priority during my BAGI presidency. We are currently working on initiatives that focus on two themes: Change the Message and Change the Audience.
In order to “change the message”, BAGI is working on several items that will be used with elected of cials, economic development organizations, community groups, and others. The purpose of these pieces is to provide data to demonstrate the need to adjust
to changing demographics, infrastructure requirements, and the implications of property tax caps.

I hope that you will consider supporting these efforts to the extent that you are able. Everyone in the homebuilding industry bene ts when we have effective leaders and policies in place.
