Q&A with Dr. Olsen How early should children get braces? There really is no hard-and-fast rule about when children could or should get braces. We recommend bringing your child in for a complimentary consultation as early as age 6. This will give us the opportunity to evaluate the development of your child’s mouth, look for any potential difficulties and be ready to initiate treatment when the time is right. I’ve heard of a two-phase treatment. What is that? A two-phase orthodontic treatment is an approach we use to prepare for the physical changes in the teeth and jaw that occur as a child ages. The first phase targets specific areas of the mouth, creating the space needed to allow adult teeth to come in properly. Once those teeth have come in, the second phase of treatment—usually involving the addition of upper and/or lower braces—then begins to move teeth and jaws into their correct places. Does Olsen Ortho Studio accept insurance? Yes. We work with most major insurance plans to ensure you have the ability to capture any orthodontic benefit. We also offer interest-free, in-house financing allowing you to make monthly payments on any amount not covered by your insurance provider. I’ve thought about getting Invasalign®—but I see dentists offer it too. Why come to Olsen Ortho Studio? Great question! We work with many exceptional dentists throughout our service region who provide outstanding oral care and dental treatments. As an orthodontist I am also a dentist, but went onto receive additional and extensive training in the proper alignment of teeth as well as treating diverse concerns such as overbites, crossbites, overcrowding of teeth and the treatment of jaw disorders. Do you work with adult patients as well as teens and children? Absolutely. A number of our patients come to us because they had braces when they were younger and they need another phase of treatment to realign their teeth. Others have waited for decades for “their turn” to get braces to enhance their teeth. And still others come to us because they need to undergo orthodontic treatment before they are able to have tooth implants or other dental work completed.
