By the time you read this, life may well be back to something very close to normal. Right now, we are celebrating the reopening of restaurants in Sonoma County, although with some distancing restrictions.
Unfortunately, “normal” for Northern Sonoma County also includes
fire preparation and prevention. There’s a lot of news pertaining to that. Senator Mike McGuire held a virtual “coffee” meeting with Sonoma County Supervisor James Gore,Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District Chief Marshall Turbeville, Healdsburg Fire Chief Jason Boaz and Caltrans District Director Tony Tavares.

Friday Night Live has been cancelled through July 3rd. The Arts Alliance is waiting to see what kinds of requirements are going suggested by governor Newsom and our Sonoma County Public Health Officer, Dr. Sundari Mace.
It is very possible that masks and social distancing will still be required in July. “The most important thing is the health and wellbeing of our Cloverdale family” and we “look forward to a heavy dose of live music and community bonding.” Follow what CAA decides as the time draws closer, but for now FNL is cancelled. http://www.cloverdaleartsalliance.org/fnlmusic
Fire Prevention Efforts in Geyserville
Sounds like things are going to be busy with lots of efforts for reducing the potential fire load here in Geyserville! Starting at the end of June or in early July, 700 goats will be deployed along the northbound lanes of Highway 101, eating down about 2 acres a day.
Cloverdale Performing Arts Center faces the same issue. All productions are postponed or are awaiting confirmation to make any changes until the end of July 2020. Events and major fundraisers are also on hold. When health orders loosen the interactions within a community, time will be needed to get the plays to the stage. Performers need to rehearse and sets need to be built. As we move closer to the end of June or into mid July, check out: https://www. cloverdaleperformingarts.com
In addition, CalTrans will be de-limbing trees on their right of way and clearing heavier brush between the CalTrans fence and the highway lanes as part of this vegetation management effort. Property owners who do not have a fence along that area don’t need to worry, as temporary fences will protect non-CalTrans land. They will also be upgrading or repairing some culverts and other areas.
Schools are out for the rest of the year. However, students as elsewhere are engaged in distance learning, finishing projects, and working to “complete” their studies for the year. A friend is a Cloverdale High School 2020 graduate. As he understands it, there is no formal graduation. CHS has arranged for a video compilation of 30-second clips of the graduates in their cap and gown, sharing what graduation means to them. For a more complete explanation
One thing that concerned me and another caller is the potential for fire up on the hillsides to the west of Highway 101. That area is in many private hands and Chief Turbeville is working with them to hopefully restore an overgrown fire break and enhance private fire suppression efforts throughout the area. I’m also told that Coppola’s is actively working to reduce fire risk in their area, which is great news all around.

Events in Geyserville
The Cloverdale Memorial Pool, managed by the YMCA, typically opens
on Memorial Weekend for the summer, but as you might have guessed the pool is remaining closed until further notice. https://www.scfymca.org/main/ cloverdale-memorial-pool/
While many events have been cancelled for this summer, a few are still on the books and as wineries and other venues reopen, some of our usual summer concerts and other events may resume in some in-person form. Contact planners to make sure of the status before making your decisions.
The list of what isn’t happening in Cloverdale goes on. . .So what are people doing for entertainment and to avoid boredom?
When people are bored, it is primarily with their own selves that they are bored. ~ Eric Hoffer Boredom is your imagination calling to you. ~ Sherry Turkle
Our Summer Solstice Harp Concert fundraiser here at Isis Oasis Sanctuary will be virtual this year. Learn how to tune in by visiting our Eventbrite page for ticketing (including free options). Eventbrite also lists other events, both virtual and what we used to call “real”, in the Geyserville area.
When Reece complained about being bored, her mom used to say, “If you are bored, the only person who can change that is you. Find a way to “unbore” yourself. You know the rules.”
Grants for Geyserville Businesses
TODAY, our rules are shelter-in-place, masks, & social distancing!
The Geyserville Community Foundation recently announced emergency funding grants to help Geyserville businesses in this time of crisis.
Drive-by birthday parties. Short and greatly appreciated! You are sitting at home. Your partner says, “Hey, come outside for a minute. I have something to show you.” You go out and stand there wondering, “ What it is?” Then the cars start driving by, the horns blaring, your friends shouting and singing “Happy Birthday!” They stop, climb out - masks on, distancing. The singing continues. You get cards, a cake, and lovely wishes from your “family”. Fifteen, twenty minutes later, they are gone – honking and shouting “Happy Birthday”. Good feelings for everyone!
The fund, named “For The Love of Geyserville” offers grants between $1,000 and $3,000.
Geyserville businesses in need of assistance are encouraged to fill out this form found @ https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZqawTHYdxatA JUQjR24IlHntAKYUfEJ17p-R8pJNB4PGswQ/viewform and email it to mail@ geyservillecommunityfoundation.org by June 15.
