Jul 6-10 & 13-17 ~ Laguna Explorers @ Home Environmental Engagement Program for 6-11 year olds. Session 1: July 6-10 & Session 2: July 13-17, 2020. $145. Scholarships are available. Register today for this fun learning adventure full of experiences that can be done at, around, and nearby home. Community is an important component of both learning and the summer camp experience, so we also incorporate online meetings and circle time for direct teaching, discussion, play, and sharing with other children and our camp staff. Environmental explorations will include dynamic activities that engage the senses, ignite curiosity, stimulate scientific inquiry, and increase children’s environmental literacy. Additionally, the activities are being designed for children to do independently, with little need of parent’s time. Educators supply the creative engagement and discovery adventures along with the supplies and tools to cultivate the budding naturalist in every child. Monday pick up of materials at the Laguna Environmental Center in Santa Rosa will be necessary. In between the online together time, Explorers will have fun with the specially- designed activities, employing the materials in their Naturalist Backpacks. Are your littles ones missing their story times at the library?
Now, the library is bringing “Storytime at Home” to your computer or mobile phone. A schedule of weekly story times, craft activities, easy science projects and read-aloud programs for older kids are now online.
Featuring Sonoma County Library children’s librarian Kim Dargeou, the short videos with “Miss Kim” are a great break for parents who want to
offer their children a connection to the library. Dargeou is sheltering at home, like many, but creates videos many times a week with Max LiBearry, her big stuffed bear at her side. The videos may cover popular children’s books, songs in English, Spanish or French, and simple science or crafts activities. More videos by other librarians will be posted in the coming weeks.
Selected videos are presented in Spanish, with an introduction by bilingual librarian Fredy Gonzalez. Log onto YouTube and look for Sonoma County Library on Facebook to discover the library’s extensive digital resources.
