Coastal Clean-up Day

31st Annual Russian River Watershed Cleanup
Sept 15th 8am-1pm
Register at: russianrivercleanup.org Russian Riverkeeper will be organizing and conducting cleanup operations on
the Russian River from Ukiah to Monte Rio. Last year over 450 volunteers turned out for RRWCU, and this year we predict a robust turnout. We look forward to having your help again for the 31st annual running of this important event. Lets get as much trash out of the river before the rains come and take it out to our ocean!

of every beach clean-up, register to volunteer at one of those locations
or choose and register for an inland waterway clean-up location

8:30 – Participants start to arrive/ Leaders start to sign in participants 9:00 – Team Leaders meet with their groups; safety and logistics orientation 9:15 – All volunteers have departed for their assigned beaches or canoe routes 12:00 – 3:00 All team leaders have checked in, all supplies and volunteers are accounted for

(Americorps Trailhead between Laguna Parkway and McKinley Streets (next
to The Barlow). There is parking along Morris Street.
Pull on gloves and grab a bucket to pick up trash along the Laguna! Help us cleanup the Laguna Wetlands Preserve before the rain starts falling and washes trash into our waterways and ocean. Use mulch and vegetation to hold water in soil. Sweep or rake grass and leaves.
Mulch and compost grass clippings and leaves. Keep paved surfaces to a minimum.
Capture water runoff in rain barrels.
Wash your car on a water-permeable surface. Keep chemicals away from storm drains. Collect your pet’s waste.
Aim your rain-gutter downspouts onto a swale.

Please join us at locations throughout Sonoma Valley for the local cleanup of the headwaters of our coastal streams. We will be providing the latex gloves/ work gloves and trash claws. Feel free to bring plastic bags you may have (to collect garbage) Ecology Center will provide more bags. Young children must be accompanied by an adult.

Petaluma at Steamer Landing Park Register at: friendsofthepetalumariver.org Help stop inland pollution before it reaches our coasts and ocean. We’ll start the day with snacks, equipment check-out and a brief safety talk and welcome. Then we’ll head out to 16 different locations along the River and its tributaries to help improve water quality and protect habitat. Friends will provide a BBQ with live music, educational activities and a raffle for volunteers at noon.
