Document History - Here’s How:
Through this project we will connect and engage with our youth communities by reaching out with these questions:
• How do you currently see your role in your community? • Where do you find hope, strength and compassion?
• What are the feelings of yourself and those around you? • How do you see this moment in history?
Submit sketches, drawings and paintings that visually portray the answers to these questions. Parts of all submitted sketches will be woven into the designs for a large community mural reflecting the unique perspective of our 14 to 20 year- old population.
We are at the threshold of change; this extraordinary experience offers an opportunity to reflect and express. Let art comfort and heal, providing a crossroads to bring people together in a new way.
A collaged mural painting will be one of the greatest forms of representation, to spark conversations about who we are, what we stand for and how we will be remembered.
No special art supplies needed. All skill levels welcome, send from anywhere in the world. Ages 14-20 is the population that Artstart has served for over 20 years in Sonoma County, California.

Sonoma County Library invites YOU
Live (online) from Wine Country... in the time of Coronavirus...
Sheltering-in-place in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, surrounded by, well, rather a lot of wonderful foods and wine? At this time, we are so very grateful for our first responders, health-care workers, grocery store workers, and frankly our entire community which is pulling together so that one day, we will get to the other side of this pandemic.
Wear masks in public, maintain physical distancing and follow the guidelines of our health officials and, we can also support our local community by safely buying local, if possible, and that includes your wine. Not only can you buy it locally, you can learn about it, too, with online ZOOM tastings and events. Here is just a small sampling of events and wine delivery options. I recommend you go online to your local winery’s website – there is a myriad of information of fun online events and specials available.
Please support our Sonoma County Wine Community... your support will help them re-hire or keep employed your friends and neighbors.
Woodenhead: One of the first wineries you get to on River Road exiting 101 and heading West is Woodenhead. They are now offering free local delivery if you live within 10-15 miles of their tasting room (minimum 4 bottle orders). Nick Stez, the winemaker, makes some of my favorite pinot noir (his Buena Tierra). Though even his entry level Russian River Estate in 2016 is stellar. I was also blown away by the 2016 Woodenhead Charbono which is still available in limited quantities. They ship!. Visit woodenheadwine.com.
Cobb Wines: Year after year, Ross Cobb makes some of the finest Sonoma Coast pinot noir. Right now, Cobb Wines is offering two virtual tastings on May 8 and May 16th, (5pm PT on both days). In preparation for the tasting, you can purchase a Spring 4-pack for only $199 with free shipping (that’s $100 + savings) and you’ll be able to taste the wines along with Ross Cobb. Visit: cobbwines.com/spring-2020-4-pack/cobb-wines-spring-2020-4-pack-750ml
Moshin Vineyards: Just a short-distance up Westside Road (from the Russian River end) – is Moshin Vineyards. Another of my favorite family- owned wineries. Rick Moshin, owner and winemaker offers a myriad of varietals, truly a wonderful way to taste an array of wines that can be grown in Sonoma County. They are offering Free curbside pick-up or $5 flat shipping. Visit: moshinvineyards.com.
Hart’s Desire Wines: Now with free curbside pickup and local delivery, they are also offering 20% off all their wines (their club price), even if you
are not in their club. Their website may not have their latest selections, I recommend you check online but also consider calling to place a phone order: hartsdesirewines.com. John’s latest pinot noirs from the Sonoma Coast have been particularly impressive, and he has a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc for enjoying the warmer summer days ahead. Visit: hartsdesirewines.com/
Harvest Moon Estate Winery: If you love Old Vine zinfandel, and, Russian River pinot noir, check out Harvest Moon. Randy Pitts, the owner and effusive winemaker is offering Zoom virtual tastings every Thursday at 5pm. Check out their Facebook page: facebook.com/harvestmoonestate.
Sophie’s Cellars: Well, I would be remiss without a little self-promotion. So, yes, in May, Sophie’s Cellars in Duncans Mills will be offering Curbside Pickup along with our delivery services. Check online as we announce the details so that you get access to our wonderful selection of local, small- production, artisan wines at sophiescellars.com.
Please be safe and well!

How can we support each other?
Document history through writing, art and other creative expression during the COVID-19, and to donate these items to the library. The materials, representing firsthand experiences by local residents, will become part of a special library collection of primary sources.
Once the crisis is resolved and it is safe to bring items to the library, residents will be invited to bring in journals, photos, drawings, letters, scrapbooks and other two-dimensional physical documents that tell the story of life in Sonoma County during this time.
Library staff will catalog a selection of the items into a special collection that can be accessible to future generations of Sonoma County Library visitors.
“Researchers and students will be able to use your work to understand what it was like living in Sonoma County during this challenging time,” said Connie Williams, History Room Librarian at the Petaluma Regional Library. “Your story can be a part of our community’s story.”
As a way to begin, Williams suggests documenting – in writing or in images – your initial reactions to news about the virus and work/school closures, and recording daily experiences, such as what life is like in your neighborhood, how you communicate with others and what has changed.
The library requests that items be no larger than 11” x 17” and can be stored flat. For more information, contact publicservices@sonomalibrary.org.
Library Director Ann Hammond said, “This is a great way to help our community preserve memories of an important event.”
