Events of the Season
Celebrating la Revolución Mexicana
Paint! Because someone you know missed a meal today, there’s a special project each year in Petaluma, called 1,000 Petaluma Bowls. Groups, clubs and neighbors gather for pottery painting parties. Each person paints a bowl to help support Petaluma People Services Center’s Meals on Wheels and Petaluma Bounty. You choose a bowl to paint for a donation of $20.00. You decide if you want to keep the bowl (for a $20 fee), or have it auctioned off at the event. As a Community Artist you’ll attend the final event for free, where you enjoy a bowl of soup, see all the beautiful bowls, pick up or bid on your bowl and know that by participating in this program at least one person was able to have access to the food they need.
KBBF commemorates and remembers the Mexican Revolution with an event on November 16th, from 5 to 10pm. Live music by two local groups, an educational presentation, and karaoke make up the entertainment. There will also be homemade birria for sale for dinner. Join in the festivities at 1700 Corby Ave, Santa Rosa. For more information, call 707-545-8833.
Community members are organizing to support the family and friends of Cristian Nuñez. Two years ago, in September, Bryan Daniel Webster stabbed and killed Nuñez in Petaluma. In July 2018, a judge found Webster guilty on several charges, including voluntary manslaughter.
Details: There will be a painting party at Petaluma Museum on November 9 from 4:00 to 6 pm. Please RSVP by November 7 - either to the Museum’s Facebook event invite or email 1000petalumabowls@petalumapeople.org.
Despite this finding, the Sonoma County D.A. Anne Masterson and Jill Ravitch offered a plea deal of involuntary manslaughter. This would reduce the sentence to six months served. After three years probation, the felony would be reduced to a misdemeanor. With Webster’s defense asking for home confinement, he might wind up never spending a day behind bars for killing Nuñez.
The big reveal event for all the bowls will be November 29 at Petaluma Hotel, 205 Kentucky Street, Petaluma, from 11:00am - 2:00 pm. Look for info at the 1000 Petaluma Bowls Facebook page.
The Nuñez family is asking people to put the pressure on the D.A. by calling her at 707-565-2311. Remind her that her job is to ensure that justice prevails.
Shop! Penngrove Market hosts an Arts & Crafts fair on November 2nd . It is a wonderful outdoor craft fair before the holidays. Live music, great food, a raffle benefiting Penngrove Elementary School, and plenty of awesome local vendors! 10am - 6pm.
Supporters can join the Nuñez family in court at 600 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, on 11/5/2019 at 1:30pm to hear the judge’s decision.
Learn! Join your friends at Petaluma Museum for an evening dialogue presented by the Petalumans of Yesteryear. The program is about Fred Wiseman, bicycle builder, race-car driver, adventurer and early pilot. Petaluma can’t claim Fred as its own, but he did make the first airmail delivery! Learn Fred’s story, complete with “Magic Lantern” show.
Learn the true history of California, significant roles played by California Indians, and impacts of colonization. Explore strategies for integrating
native perspectives into education and civic discourse. This presentation on November 8th at 7pm is at Christ Church United Methodist, 1717 Yulupa, in Santa Rosa. California Indian Museum and Cultural Center Director Nicole Lim speaks at this benefit hosted by Sonoma Solidarity with Standing Rock. Suggested donation $10-$20, with all proceeds going to CIMCC.
DJs from Mas Firme Records kept the party jumping at KBBF’s sixth annual Trunk or Treat in October. Now’s the time to start planning next year’s spooky car theme so you can join in the fun.
KBBF welcomes your support! Visit the KBBF.org website to make a monthly donation or a one-time gift.
Details: Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Museum, 20 Fourth St., Petaluma. Suggested donation of $5 at the door. 7 – 9pm.
Trunk or Treat
Enjoy! You’re invited to Artful Arrangements’ 6th Annual FREE Giving Thanks at Homestead Gardens gathering on Sunday Nov. 24th, 2:00 – 4:00pm, for a guided tour of a century-old homestead, where children feed the chickens and learn about farm animals. Everyone walks through The Portal of Time into the future! Then, reassemble in the Gardens for a free community meal and libations, and parents and grandparents help their children plant a starter plant in a ceramic cup to nurture at home together. It’s all free, and loads of fun. Artful Arrangements is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Details: at 205 Orchard Lane, Penngrove. Contact Diane Davis at 707-664-8656 or visit artfularrangements.org.

an take the family to a holiday performance. Our neighbors at the Penngrove Station dance studio, North Bay Performing Arts Association, have
“Clara’s Enchanted Dream, Land of Sweets”. It’s an abbreviated 2-Act ballet of the beloved Nutcracker. The length of the ballet should be great for little ones to attend without getting too wiggly in their seats!
