and security of our community. Unresolved, this distress can damage our health and limit our potential for rebuilding a strong community.
The Sonoma County Resilience Collaborative, being spearheaded by Santa Rosa Community Health is working in partnership across the community and with the Center
Join diverse Sonoma County community members in this dynamic program where you will practice evidence-based self-care tools. We have graduated 2 groups of facilitators (220 people) The faculty from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine have even commented that our community is special. We seem to be more engaged with helping each other than many of the communities they go to around the world!
• The science of mind-body skills and how stress and trauma affect us. • Techniques for self-care and stress management
• How to be more resilient and pass on the skills to others.
We have supervision with the Center for Mind-Body Medicine faculty covered by our grants. Because the training was covered by grants, we were asked to do the workshops and groups pro bono, so cost is
not a barrier. The goal is reaching our community that continues to be in distress. We have been teaching and using these skills in our schools, clinics, workplaces, and shelters. In this past year, over 100 workshops have been done, reaching over 1000 people. Over 60 skills groups have been done, reaching more than 600 people.
We Were Taught:
An Eastern saying is “the teacher and the taught, together become the teaching”. With this in mind, there is a ripple effect of teaching us the mind- body exercises that help ourselves with self-awareness and then go into the community to do the workshops and small groups to teach others what has helped reduce our own anxiety or PTSD. It has been transformative for many of the individuals that have learned the evidenced-based techniques to reduce stress, anxiety, and other effects of the traumas we face in our lives.
