“The Fabric of West County” exhibits currently on display through June 30, 2019 at Westamerica Bank and Cultivate Home, both on downtown Main Street in Sebastopol, are excellent examples of the diverse vision and high quality of the workmanship of local fiber artists.
Westamerica Bank shows Beth Hartmann’s translucent torsos and vessels of cow/pig gut stretched over metal open work frames which give us visual insight into the inner workings of our temporal physical existence and Lynn Berglund’s inventive combinations of antique hankies and found objects which showcase the fine needlework of the hankies and their value as art.
At Cultivate Home, Judy Smith’s hooked rug wall hangings utilize an old technique to create modern works of whimsy, fantasy and vibrant color fabricated from repurposed wool garments. Jessica McCready’s finely detailed critters, also created from repurposed wool garments, are members of a few distantly related families almost mythical in their playfulness.
STAY TUNED: There are two more exhibits in “The Fabric of West County” thru October
