Personal Giving
In 1983, a small group of philanthropic leaders formed the National Hardware/Homebuilding Industry (HHI) with City of Hope. The group has grown to encompass a nationwide cross-section of manufacturers, retailers, distributors, manufacturers’ representatives and related members. Today, HHI remains one of the strongest teams in City of Hope’s national network of dedicated volunteers.
Since these early days of HHI’s efforts to support City of Hope, volunteers have looked for ways to contribute beyond their companies’ philanthropic activities. Personal giving remains a strong component of the industry’s annual initiative.
When you make a personal contribution this year, your generous gift will go towards supporting advancing research and care for leukemia.
Leukemia is one of the deadliest cancers in existence. One of its most common forms, acute myeloid leukemia (AML), has a five-year survival rate of just under 30%. Leukemia is a complex blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow and swiftly multiplies, gradually overwhelming the immune system’s ability to fight infection. Every year, there are more than 62,000 new leukemia cases and nearly 24,000 resulting deaths. City of Hope is committed to improving these staggering statistics for patients everywhere by advancing unprecedented innovations in the fight against leukemia.
This year’s personal giving program will raise much needed funds in support of the continued
work of Guido Marcucci, M.D., at the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research in the Hematologic Malignancies Research Institute at City of Hope.
Marcucci is the founding director of the center. He is an internationally recognized authority on leukemia, with over 26 years of experience as
a research scientist and practicing clinician in medical oncology and stem cell transplantation.
City of Hope’s Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research is at the forefront of leukemia care and research. It was an early pioneer in blood, stem cell and bone marrow transplantation, which
are among the leading forms of treatment for leukemia, and continues to develop the world’s foremost breakthrough cancer therapies. Today, it is the nation’s top provider of these transplants, and its treatment success rates are exceptional. City of Hope was also among the first to develop CAR T cell therapy, as well as breakthrough therapies to target leukemia stem cells. Today, City of Hope is building on that success and driving leading-edge clinical trials of new leukemia treatments.
Your support helps us get closer to the cures!
