The  nal event during South African Library Week was a visit from the Living Legends, scholar extraordinaire and policy expert Professor Muxe Nkondo (left in the picture) and South African National Laureate Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile (right in the picture). The Unisa Library, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, hosted the Living Legends Legacy Project, a conversation on lifelong learning, on 17
March 2016.
11.3 World Book Day Celebrations with the “Mother of Books” 26th April 2016
During 2016 World Book Day, the Unisa Library spent the day at Marikana Combined School, in the North West Province, with the Mother of Books, Dr Gcina Mhlophe. The event is an annual UNESCO initiative to celebrate and encourage a reading culture and grant children an opportunity to have a book of their own. Dr Mhlophe furnished the school library with her own books as well as copies of other South African authors. “We are grateful to Unisa and to Dr Gcina Mhlophe for remembering our school and motivating our learners to read,” said school Principal Mr. Moeng.
12. Community Engagement: Training offered by Unisa Staff
RDA-SA Steering Committee Training in Zululand
Dr H. Marais conducted training at the RDA-SA Steering Committee training in Zululand, April 2016 and at the Library of Parliament, July 2016.
Research Data Management Plan
Ms. R. Bezuidenhout organised and trained on the Research Data Management Plan training for the Carnegie Professional Development Programme.
Public Librarians Training Project
Northern Cape, Limpopo, North West and Free State introduced to the “Modern Library”
The Library extended training for partner public librarians in the Northern Cape, Limpopo, North West and Free State provinces. The purpose of the project was to impart skills to enable the partner public librarians in the various regions to o er e ective service in the digital era.
Tshwane
A two day training workshop was conducted for the Tshwane public librarians in 2016. The topics covered during the workshop were:
