Unlike English “but,” this particle attaches to the end of a sentence forming a dependent clause.
1. きれいですけ(れ)ど、たかいです。 ‘It is beautiful, but it is expensive.’ 2. むずかしいですけ(れ)ど、おもしろいです。
3. キムは いますけ(れ)ど、パックさんは いません。
Compare this pattern with the following. Here でも is an independent word, and connects two separate sentences.
4. きれいです。でも、たかいです。 ‘It is beautiful. However, it is expensive.’
