     Hiragana Transcription Rules
   This section is an overview of hiragana transcription rules. You will become familiar with the specific application of each rule in subsequent lessons.
1 ‘。’ marks the end of a sentence. おはようございます。 ‘Good morning.’
Assign one full space for it, and place it on the lower left corner. When using grids, if the last letter of a sentence falls on the last square of the line, place it outside the margin as in the following.

‘、’ marks a major break within the sentence.
たなかさん、よんでください。 ‘Mr. Tanaka, please read it.’ The second half of the long vowel ê Is written with い.

Exceptions are:
The second half of the long vowel ô Is transcribed with う.
