A revised coinage series was introduced in 1965 with denominations of 1⁄2, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, and silver was replaced by nickel. The coinage later bore the state president’s portrait or the South African coat of arms, with the country name given in Afrikaans, English or both. The 1⁄2 cent coin was discontinued in the 1970s. /SARB
