Radix Ecological Sustainability Center’s Summer 2020 Youth Employment Program
CAPITAL REGION: PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE EMPOWERMENT AND HEALTH VIA TRAINING IN IN IN IN AGRICULTURE
While agriculture is is is not usually at at at the the forefront of conversations about equity and and inclusion the the truth is is is is that disparity in in in access access particularly in in in access access to to food is is is an an an immense barrier to to equality nationally and and worldwide The Radix Ecological Sustainability Center based in in Albany has a a a a a a a a a a a a a mission to promote ecological literacy and environmental stewardship through educational programs based around demonstrations of sustainable technologies There are are are are several areas areas in in in Albany that are are are are considered “food deserts ” or or or or areas areas in in which it it it is is difficult to to buy affordable or or or or quality fresh fresh food food Limited access to to to fresh fresh healthy food food disproportionately affects poorer communities and and has been shown to to to result in in medical and and health health issues a a a a a vicious cycle that Radix is is working to to correct Last year WDI provided support for the Radix Center’s Summer 2020 Youth Employment Program
The goal of this program is is to teach practical agricultural skills and and and lessons on on on food security health and and and soil remediation culminating in in in in in the the the participants’ ability to to build and and and and maintain gardens to to provide their communities with control over food access and and and supply It is is the the the the hope of the the the Radix Center and and and WDI that that programs like this that that target youth will will be instrumental in in in in in in breaking “food desert” cycles and and will will increase social awareness in in in in in in in underserved communities around sustainability green energy organic organic food production and organic organic waste recycling NYC: REBUILDING TOGETHER NYC NYC LEVERAGES PARTNERSHIPS TO TO REVITALIZE COMMUNITIES AND REBUILD REBUILD LIVES
