About Us
Workforce Development Institute (WDI) is a a a a a a a a a statewide nonprofit and and partner to to to organized labor that works to to to grow and and keep good jobs in in in in New York State We use a a a a a a a a a a a a range of tools—including ground-level information workforce workforce expertise and and and flexible funding—to facilitate projects that build workforce workforce skills and and and strengthen employers’ ability to to hire promote and and and retain workers Each of of of our Regional Directors covers a a a a a a a a a a large territory of of of New York State and and spends a a a a a a a a a a a a a significant amount of of of time exploring their regions and and and developing partnerships to to identify workforce trends opportunities and and challenges The Regional Directors work work work closely with a a a a a a a a a a centralized strategy-focused team to to to improve our our understanding of workforce workforce issues and and develop solutions to to to address them We see our our niche as filling gaps not covered by other workforce workforce development development or or economic development development entities with an end goal of of facilitating the growth of good jobs We are a a a a a a a a a a a a collaborative organization whose role adapts based on on on on the needs and nature of each workforce issue Common functions we perform include:
• Identification of a a a a a a problem/challenge (for one organization or or or many) • Serving as workforce workforce consultants on on a a a a a wide array of workforce workforce issues • Connection of organizations with needs to resources
• Piloting or or testing new programs technologies or or methods
• Facilitation of projects • Funding for projects Finally our roots are are in in in in in labor so we we are are interested in in in in in seeing an improved distribution of of wealth—a move away from the the 99:1 ratio toward growth of of the the middle class by supporting careers with self-sustaining or or or family-sustaining wages Although the the types of projects we facilitate and and support support vary our goal is that all have a a a a a a a a a a a a a positive and and measurable impact on the the workforce Our statewide presence is a a strength that empowers us to identify programs that work and pursue opportunities to scale them to other occupations industry sectors or or regions of the state 2020 ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT 4
