Turtle conservation
There is nowhere quite like Cayman Turtle Centre. It’s one of those special places that, once visited, will captivate your heart forever. A full day out for all the family, the Cayman Turtle Centre offers a fully rounded opportunity to learn more about these incredible sea creatures in a real, hands-on way. There is a ton of activities and things to see, from interacting directly with the turtles to marveling at some of the scarier creatures who live there! Plus there’s water fun, educational activities, an aviary where you can get up close and personal with all sorts of birds and a great restaurant that’s the perfect lunch location.
in the Turtle Lagoon alongside the Green Sea Turtles and hundreds of brightly coloured fish. This is a truly magical experience and one you won’t forget.
Predator Reef is also well worth
a visit where you can watch sharks and other predators through the underwater or dry view panels. The Caribbean Free Flight Aviary is a lovely little enclave where you can entice a whole manner of birds from their perches with food – they are quite cheeky and may end up sitting on your head!
Turtles have been important to
the Cayman Islands way of life
for hundreds of years so their
preservation has been a top priority
for the islands. At the Cayman Turtle
Centre you can see turtles in all
stages of their growth cycle, from tiny
baby hatchlings all the way through
to fully grown magnificent adults.
Turtle conservation is at the heart of
what they do and the Centre is one of
the world’s leading centres for turtle
conservation, education and research.
Every year in November a few lucky
members of the public are chosen
from a raffle to join the crew of the Centre in releasing several turtles in their annual turtle release and so far the Centre has released well over 31,000 farm-bred turtles into the wild, beating all other turtle conservation organisations.
Breaker’s Lagoon is the largest swimming pool in the Cayman Islands, with two waterfalls and
an underwater view of the predator tank. There’s also a fun Turtle Twister Waterslide that you can climb and slide time and time again!
The Blue Hole Nature Trail takes you through beautiful natural settings and Cayman Street allows you to take a step back in time to view old Cayman architecture with traditional sand gardens and conch shell decoration.
Schooner’s Bar and Grill offers a good lunch, snack and drink selection and the Splash Gift Shop is also well worth a visit, a great place to buy a souvenir of your visit.
Get up close!
Visiting the Turtle Touch Tanks is a pretty special activity because it gives visitors the rare chance to actually touch a turtle and even pick one up. Then there’s Smiley’s Saltwater Lagoon, home to a nine foot saltwater crocodile (strictly no touching here!). One of the best experiences ever is a swim
